THE MAINE COONS

I’m sure I would be a lot more partial to this if it was a record and not a shitty unlabelled burned cd with a crappy taped together cover. But hey, I get it, not everyone has the money or inclination, and the songs do stand up on their own. I think THE MAINE COONS put out a flexi-disc though and I sure wish they had sent that! Consequently I had to dig around the internet to find out what the tracks are called and generally what the fuck is going on with this group. “I am a Motherfucker” is one of my favourites with its sweet organ and slight MARK SULTAN vibe to the vocals. In general the recordings remind me of TY SEGALL, KING TUFF, and BOX ELDERS. I’m pretty sure he’s a one-man band, which explains the MARK SULTAN/TY SEGALL vibe and the percussion style. He is from Austin and has been opening for acts like NOBUNNY. The recordings on the cd really show this dude’s potential as a song-writer, as obviously he was able to do more with the instrumentation than the live demos on the myspace. Generally makes me feel like I’m stoned, it’s sunny, and that everything is going to be a okay. Total summertime tripping around music. Lots of nasally boy appealing to your heart elements and sweet guitar and lovely organ. I would expect to hear more from THE MAINE COONS in the future and hope he’s got a band to tour with.
