Way back in 1984, The Morlocks were tearing up the west coast of the US with their primal garage stomp of the six oh variety with lead singer Leighton leading the way. 25 years later and The Morlocks are once more, this time with Leighton as the only original member. They’re back doing the garage stomp, but this time the sounds are just a little more sophisticated and the sound quality has improved immensely from the early days. But there’s still lots of fuzz intact for us garage heads, as the dueling guitars work so well together as on “You Burn Me Out”. And Leighton’s growl is still intact, and he knows just when to let it loose for maximum effect as on the opening track, “Dirty Red” where he can get all the women swooning. Yowza! Add to that a ripping version of The Flamin’ Groovies “Teenage Head” and you’ve got a killer chunk of clear vinyl! Caught The Morlocks live at Wooly Weekend in Montreal back in August and they sound just as good as on this record! (Dave O’Halloran)
