THE REEKERS
I Can’t Believe / Don’t Call Me Flyface 7”
Mo-shee Records 2011
Previously released in 1968 under the name THE OMEGAS, “I Can’t Believe” was actually recorded by a combination of Maryland’s THE REEKERS, THE OMEGAS, and THE JEWELS as THE REEKERS had by the late ‘60s dispersed and formed THE HANGMEN. Now reissued by lead Reeker Tom Guernsey, “I Can’t Believe” is a classic late ‘60s garage tune, instantly as familiar as any of the garage rock standards. “Don’t Call Me Flyface” is an instro track on the flipside that would fit perfectly on an episode of American Bandstand with cute girls shakin’ their tambourines alongside the band’s SONICS’ esque howls. I dig it! In 1966 THE REEKERS managed to knock the Beatles off the top spot on the charts with their “What a Girl Can’t Do” 45. A great nugget of garage history re-released!
