On their debut self-released album, The Sunday Sinners covered Sugar Pie Desanto and The Staple Singers, but before they can be confused with The Detroit Cobras, they put out this six-song EP, The Sweet Jam, where the ex members of the Del Gators and Les Sexareenos take on only Lou Reed’s “What Goes On”. The remaining five songs are soulful originals by a group that knows that Jena Roker’s voice is as important instrument as Work With Me Annie’s farfisa. The result is a crisply produced CD that makes The Sweet Jam a must have for anyone with a love of soul, magic, and swaying like you just don’t care. (Janelle Hollyrock)
