Wore out my original copy of “Real Wild Child” by NYC’s Victims years ago and it’s great that this sucker has finally shown up on CD, as trying to find a replacement vinyl copy is almost impossible these days. One of those bands from the late ‘70s NYC scene that you rarely hear or read about, The Victims certainly didn’t deserve their obscurity as they should be heard by ears that dig these kinda sounds. And that sound is NY Dolls style revved up punk rock and roll with lots of garage influences tossed in to make some real killer tunes. Demonic guitar sounds courtesy of Barry Ryan (X-Lucky 7, currently with Robert Gordon) that just shred your speakers the way the guitar is mixed so hot! Guaranteed to leave your ears ringing and a smile on your face when you inflict this noise at full volume on your neighbours! And you’ll feel way better too! At least I do, as this album just gets better and better each listen! Only disappointment is that none of the singles The Victims released are on this CD, it’s just a straight re-ish of the original Golden Disc Recordings album from 1979. Rumour has it that these singles and a live recording are in the works to be released… and not only that, but The Victims have reformed and are playing some gigs in the NYC area.
