TOPLESS MONGOS
s/t CASS
Topless Music 2010

Scored this tape randomly at SMMR BMMR from Mongos’s Ryan Sadler (THEE CRYPTOMANIACS, SUBLINGUALS) and Nicole Greasy (SHRAPNELLES, GROWN-UPS). These guys are weirdos and I like it! The self-titled tape starts off with a creepy, weird Halloweenie trip called “Torture Chamber” complete with Twilight Zone style guitar, thump-thumps, diabolical laughter and shrieks. Then the first real song is this crazy upbeat number with a surfy guitar that ends up freaking out all over the place. This song is called either “Theme from Human Centipede” or “Dum Dum Dum”, both are labeled number two in the liners. Then my copy goes pretty much silent and slowly you can hear music come back in. A little research into their myspace showed that this was a common occurrence and offers links to download the missing songs. Side B starts with “Hey My My”, an amazing straight up fast punk’n roll song, which probably clocks in around a minute long. “The Grave” and “Royal Flesh” are kickass sweet and bouncy. The general feel is funtime primitive-creepy. Lots of floor-tom to the drums and two freakout guitars. Garage-punk as it should be! The tape is pink with this half-transparent green case, awesome print on the tape itself, which kind of offsets the sharpied title. Liner notes are mostly just this drawing of a Bart Simpson with glasses jizzing all over a prone and shaking Garfield/Archie character and saying “Fuck you Grown Ups”. (Morgan Donor)
