Judging from the name Voodoo Idols, you’d probably figure that this is a Cramps tribute band, but you’d only be scratching the surface. There’s definitely an early Cramps influence as all of the songs are horror related and their sound is certainly based on 1950’s minimal trashabilly noise. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with that, as this trio works from there and adds eerie high pitched female backing vocals to the raspy male lead vocals to get a campy sound that’s just right for Halloween. Spooky and fun, the Voodoo Idols are a brand new band that formed from the wreckage of Dementia 13 (Hamilton, ON based) just recently and this is their first, of hopefully many releases.
