WOVEN BONES In and Out and Back Again

WOVEN BONES
In and Out and Back Again
HoZac Records 2010

Heavy drum-pounding underground rock from Austin, Texas guitarist/vocalist Andrew Burr and co. that opens with some nods to later era Jesus and Mary Chain. Woven Bones are certainly no strangers to the psychedelic Spaceman 3 or The Cramps “Garbage Man”, but they make it their own with their primal use of the fuzz pedal. I can’t quite understand what Andrew’s singing about, but there’s definitely some scary shit going on here. It’s not quite Automatic electric, but I could see some DJ putting this LP on in a dark, dirty club and Andrew’s murky vocals bad tripping the goths. This is raw and rough ‘round the edges but I like it! (Janelle Hollyrock)
